Coach's Blog: Another busy week in the world of junior football!

Last week was a busy and productive one...

We kicked off with a great session at Arnaud Lodge Pre-School: 16 participants, aged 2 to 4. They did some great work followed by one of the best mini matches I have seen in a long time which ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw. It is a pleasure to coach our very youngest little footballers and am looking forward to ending our first half term in there on Friday afternoon.

Tuesday also delivered two more high quality group sessions. We had our best numbers yet and some brilliant football to match. It is always much easier to coach a group of players that turn up with such enthusiasm and seemingly endless amounts of energy!

On Wednesday, our growing 5-6pm technical session was really impressive. We worked on many different aspects, but a particular highlight was the passing and finishing drill. It is a drill I have used with much older players, and our talented youngsters on Wednesday really got the hang of it quickly. Well done, guys!

The week wrapped up as ever with a 1-to-1 session with David on Saturday morning. It was our third session and I am already seeing early results from the work we are doing. Much of this is due to David's natural ability and the attitude he shows, but it proves how a little tweak here and there can really benefit a player.

This coming week, we have our last group football sessions until after half term. Please remember we have our two day football camp at Powerleague on Monday 30th and Tuesday 31st May.

I would like to end my latest update with a massive shout out to Tigers JFC U18 – my son Charlie's team - who I have had the pleasure of coaching over many seasons. We played our last ever game on Wednesday night in the league cup final versus Grays Athletic at Aveley’s Parkside Stadium, and after a thrilling game scored the only goal of the match in the 90th minute to claim a memorable win and secure a league and cup double. Well done, boys! What a great way to end such an amazing journey. A massive amount of talent, I look forward to seeing how you progress in adult football.
